Summary: This unique Philodendron hybrid combines the deeply lobed leaves of squamiferum with the fuzzy red petioles of serpens, creating an exotic collector’s gem in a compact baby size.
✨ Why You'll Love It
- Rare cross with striking red, hairy petioles and elegant lobed leaves
- Compact baby plant (Pot 6 cm | Height ~15 cm) perfect for growing out in your collection
- Strong climbing habit – ideal for moss poles or totems as it matures
- Highly sought-after by aroid collectors for its unique parentage traits
🌞 Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light to promote strong growth and maintain leaf vibrancy. Avoid direct midday sun to protect its delicate foliage.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Prefers high humidity (60–80%) to thrive – mist regularly or place near a humidifier, especially in heated or air-conditioned European homes.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Plant in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with perlite and orchid bark. Repot as it outgrows its baby pot to encourage robust root development and faster growth.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children to avoid irritation or digestive upset.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Fast-growing climber under optimal conditions. Propagate via stem cuttings in water or moss once mature to expand your rare aroid collection.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Fertilise every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter. Provide a moss pole early to encourage larger mature leaves as it climbs.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves: Often due to overwatering or cold drafts.
- Leggy growth: Insufficient light; move to a brighter location.
- Pests: Monitor for spider mites and aphids; treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
🧬 Botanical Background
This hybrid combines Philodendron squamiferum, known for its fuzzy red petioles and lobed leaves, with Philodendron serpens, famed for even denser petiole hairs. The result is a striking collector’s hybrid treasured for its tactile stems and classic aroid leaf form.
